Biography
Eva Silvestre (she/her/hers) is originally from Guatemala and immigrated to the United States as a child with her family during the country’s civil war seeking political asylum. She grew up in a rural community of immigrants in south Florida and earned a B.S. from Cornell University, a M.A. from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and a PhD from Tulane. Her research areas focus on monitoring and evaluation of health programs and improving health information systems for evidence-based decision-making. She is currently the principal investigator for Data for Impact, a USAID-funded project that focuses on supporting countries to generate and use high-quality data to improve their programs, policies, and – ultimately – health outcomes. She teaches introduction to public health, social and behavioral aspects of health, and Latino health in the United States. She is a College Track mentor for the class of 2022 and leads the SPHTM anti-racism taskforce. Eva is the proud single mother of a 6-year-old son whose viewpoint is influencing her thoughts on race and diversity in the United States.
